Wellington ‘Wet’ Hostel

Supportive housing designed to assist homeless individuals experiencing alcoholism…………………………………………………………01 02 03 04 05 06 07

This project questioned the ways in which traditional institutional buildings could be reconceived and reconfigured to accommodate contemporary approaches to supportive housing. Using the former Wellington Fever Hospital as a foundation, the project explored issues of accessibility, privacy, surveillance and, ultimately, power and control. Through an academic literature review and one-on-one interviews with architects, social workers and residents, I developed design strategies that could support and empower both residents and staff.
